The photographer, writer and researcher John Stathatos was born in Athens in 1947. He studied and worked in England for many years, while his personal work has been widely exhibited in Europe. He has curated large exhibitions and major international events including the Israeli Biennale of Photography and the Thessaloniki Photosynkyria. He has published and translated various titles and has contributed significantly to the emerge of Greek photographic studies as well as researching and the photographic work of Andreas Embirikos, Panayiotis Fatseas and Maria Chrousaki. In 2022, he founded the annual Kythera Photographic Encounters and the associated conference on the History of Greek Photography.
