Nectarios Stamatopoulos

Nectarios Stamatopoulos (1976) is a visual artist and designer. He lives and works in Athens and his work includes a wide range of activities such as drawing, painting, photography, artists books and installations.
In 2023 his work was selected for the international shortlist of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize in London, while in 2022 he was distinguished and exhibited in the final selection for the Derwent Art Prize in London and Paris. In April of the same year, he was invited and presented a solo installation of 21 designs in Great Britain, at the Newlyn Art Gallery (member of the Tate Gallery network) as a parallel event to the exhibition 'Captured Beauty' curated by the UK Arts Council Collection and the organization Black Voices Cornwall.
In 2017 he was invited at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol as part of the Drawn 2017 Biennial presenting the project 'I am not here project' at the RWA Drawing Lab.
His works have been exhibited in important institutions and museum halls abroad, such as:
Royal Scottish Academy of Arts, Royal Ulster Academy, Royal West of England Academy, Derby Art Museum, Project Space at TATE Britain (UK), Phoenix Art Museum, Ray Johnson Estate (USA), Karuizawa New Art Museum (Japan), Reykjavik Art Museum (Island), S.M.A.K. Ghent (BE), EMST, Benaki Museum, NEON Organization, Institut Francais d’Athenes, B&M Theocharakis Foundation (GR) etc. as well as in research presentations of universities such as:
UCLancanshire, East Tennessee State University, Chemnitz University of Technology.
His artistic production and research mainly concerns drawing and its different forms, from the academic version to new digital and experimental applications as well as its use as a means of circulating information and creating artistic networks and collaborations.
He started his artistic career in 1998 as a self-taught illustrator and comics designer in the Greek press and has been a collaborator of the publications Athens Voice, Terzopoulos, Eleftherotypias, etc. while at the same time he has a 25-year career as a set designer and art director in the field of advertising production, publishing and events, having won numerous Ermis Awards, etc. He has also collaborated and contributed to various charitable and public benefit projects of organizations such as the Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show, National Brain Appeal, The Strokes Association, Visual Aids NY, the Margarita Special Education Workshop and TEDxAcademy.
