Vauthier was born in 1973. He graduated with a PHD in Finance and Master of Laws but early enough he discovered photography through the famous Cartier- Bresson's book “Images à la Sauvette”. He has carried out long-term projects such as 'The Builders of the Indian Sub-Continent' between 2000-2011, which received the 2nd Agfa Multicontrast Award in 2000 and the 4th in 2003 and was exhibited at the first Leica Store in Paris. Other projects of his are reportages on Ethiopia, Madagascar and South Soudan, 'South America: Mutation of a continent' which was exhibited at Printemps Photographique de Pomerol, and since 2019 there is an on-going project about the working conditions of European farmers. Ludovic Vauthier is fascinated about the interconnection between the past and the present and he believes that photography can highlight the beauty of every day life.
